ANF News – Repression of women in Iran continues
The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) issued a statement regarding Iran’s repression of women activists in Rojhilatê Kurdistan and Iran.
It was reported that 34-year-old Nazenin Hüseyinpur, a mother of two from Piranshahr district in Urmia, was detained by the city’s Intelligence Department and that her whereabouts are unknown.
It was stated that Nazenin Hüseyinpur was detained after being summoned to the Intelligence Department on August 16, but despite persistent inquiries by her family, no information was provided about the reason for her detention or her whereabouts. It was also reported that Nazenin Hüseyinpur has not been allowed access to a lawyer or family visits.
According to published reports, young Kurdish woman Zehra Rabbanî (18), who was 17 at the time of her detention, was sentenced by the Bojnurd Criminal Court to a total of 15 months and 2 days in prison and a fine of 6 million tomans. Zehra Rabbanî will serve 7 months and 16 days of this sentence in prison.
Zehra Rabbanî, who was detained for participating in protests, was charged with “assembly and collusion with the intention of committing crimes against the country’s internal security” and “producing, transporting, and distributing explosive materials.”
Zehra Rabbanî was summoned to a police station for questioning on January 4 and was made to sign a document stating that she would not participate in protests. However, she was detained the following day. Rabbanî was released after spending 45 days in detention.
